For Prospective Graduates
Advancements in genetics and personalized medicine highlight the need to train both biomedical and medical graduates in the rapidly-developing area of translational cancer research. CSI Singapore aims to train the next generation of cancer researchers to excel both in the scientific and translational aspects of cancer research. For this reason, we have introduced PhD graduate programs in Cancer Biology.
This program seeks to attract top science and medical talents interested in a career in cancer research. Graduate students will have access to world-class facilities dedicated to cancer research and can look forward to working with a dynamic global team of renowned specialized scientists in an intellectually stimulating environment.
This program also aims to produce high-caliber researchers who are capable of independent research investigation, who will contribute original ideas that advance their specific field of cancer research, and are well-equipped to pursue careers in clinical science.
About CSI PhD Graduate Scholarship
Upon successful admission to the CSI Singapore PhD Graduate Program, students will be awarded the CSI Singapore PhD Graduate Scholarship which is tenable for up to four years of the students’ candidature. Graduate Scholars will receive full tuition subsidy and a monthly stipend of S$4,300. Singaporean students will also receive employer’s CPF contribution of 17%.

- A Bachelor’s Honours Degree (Highest Distinction / Distinction) in the areas of Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine and Life Sciences, or
- A MBBS or MD Degree Holder

A) GRE
- Submission of GRE scores is strongly encouraged for all applicants.
- GRE scores demonstrating strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical abilities will significantly strengthen your application.
B) TOEFL/IELTS
- Applicants whose native tongue and medium of instruction are not English must submit TOEFL/IELTS scores as evidence of their proficiency in the English Language. The minimum TOEFL score ranges for NUS are as follows:

A) Transcript
Official transcript of academic records from each university you have attended. Transcript may be submitted in either format:
- Hardcopy transcript:
- To be requested from your university using the prescribed form, to be directly mailed to CSI Singapore.
- Transcripts must be enclosed in an official SEALED with its flap bearing the security seal of the university and the signature of the Registrar or representative.
OR
- Electronic transcript:
- Official electronic transcript is acceptable from your university.
- Please request your university to send the transcript to csi_gradprog@nus.edu.sg, while informing us of the incoming e-transcript so that we can keep a lookout for it.
Applicants from NUS and NTU can submit the official electronic transcript of their academic records downloaded from the student system.
B) GRE

C) TOEFL/IELTS

D) Referee Reports
Recommendations from 2 academic referees are to be submitted via the online admission system. You should check with your referees and obtain their institutional e-mail address. E-mail addresses from domains other than “.edu” may be subjected to additional screening and filtering. Once your online application is submitted, an automated e-mail will be sent to your referees.
E) Publications
Please upload a copy of each of your publication(s), if any, to the online application system. The journal’s “Impact Factor” field (which allows input of up to one decimal point) is essentially a measure of scientific impact that is based on citation rates for an article or other citable item. It also takes into account the significance of the journals in which result has been published. Please leave it blank if you are unsure.
*All supporting documents which are not in English must be accompanied by an official certified English translation.
*Supporting documents submitted are non returnable.
All supporting documents should be compiled into a single PDF document and emailed to csi_gradprog@nus.edu.sg. Kindly indicate in the subject title: CSI Graduate Program Application.
For transcripts only:
On top of the soft-copy upload, please request your university/institution to send an original hard-copy transcript directly to CSI in a SEALED envelope with its flap bearing the security seal and the signature of the Registrar or representative. Please use the prescribed form for such requests. Graduates from NUS can submit copies of their result slips or official transcripts of their academic records.

Please note that your application will only be deemed complete after we have received all the supporting documents.
The University will correspond with you primarily using e-mail and the online status enquiry during the application process to convey messages such as requesting for outstanding documents, interview notification etc. Hence, it is very important that you provide a valid and correct e-mail address and maintain your e-mail account regularly. The University will not be responsible for undeliverable e-mails and their consequences.
The application for August 2025 intake will open from 11 October 2024 to 10 January 2025, and all applications (including supporting documents) and application fees should be received by 17 January 2025.
Any application received after the closing date would be considered for the next intake.
Inaccurate or false information or omission of material information or no application fee payment will render your application invalid. The University reserves the right to reject applications that are incomplete or inaccurate. Persons admitted on the basis of inaccurate or false information may be expelled. The University has not engaged any external agencies to undertake graduate student recruitment on its behalf. The School reserves the rights to reject any applications without giving reasons.
The non-refundable application fee is payable for each program and department you apply for. Online application – S$50 per application (inclusive of prevailing GST)
Local applicants
- Online payment by any of the methods: – VISA, Mastercard or AMEX – Debit Card (applicants must have an online banking account with either of the following banks: POSB/DBS, UOB or Citibank); or
- Complete the Application Fee Form and send it together with a crossed cheque made payable to National University of Singapore. Please write your name and program applied for (Cancer Science Institute of Singapore Graduate PhD Program) at the reverse side of the cheque; or
- Complete the Application Fee Form and make payment by NETS at the Student Service Centre (located at Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) during operating hours. Once payment has been made, please forward a scanned copy of the Application Fee Form to csi_gradprog[at]nus.edu.sg , stating ‘Name’ and ‘Application Number’ in the title of the email.
International applicants
- Online payment by any of the methods: – VISA, Mastercard or AMEX – Debit Card (applicants must have an online banking account with either of the following banks: POSB/DBS, UOB or Citibank); or
- Complete the relevant Application Fee Form and send it together with a bank draft (drawn on a bank in Singapore in Singapore dollar) made payable to “National University of Singapore“. Please write your name, mailing address and program(s) applied for (Cancer Science Institute of Singapore Graduate PhD Program) on the reverse side of the bank draft; or
- If you are unable to obtain a bank draft in Singapore dollar, you may submit a bank draft in US dollar. The amounts in US dollar include bank charge which will be incurred by the University to process the bank draft.
Applicants for the August 2025 intake will be notified of the outcome by 1 May 2025.
