Congratulations to our Deputy Director, Professor Chng Wee Joo, for being awarded the prestigious Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigator Award. The STaR Investigator Award, an initiative by the Ministry of Health’s National Medical Research Council (NMRC), is one of Singapore’s top scientific honours that provides research and salary funding to researchers over a period of five years.

The National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Awards were established in support of translational and clinical research in Singapore. The NMRC Awards aim to recognise clinician scientists and researchers for their outstanding achievements and contributions, and to support them in developing breakthrough research that will result in positive outcomes for patients.

Professor Chng, Deputy Director and Senior Principal Investigator at CSI, leads a team to carry out research that focuses on haematologic malignancies such as multiple myeloma (MM), acute myeloid leukemias (AML) and natural killer / T-cell Lymphoma (NKTL). He is also the Director of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS), and Senior Consultant at the Department of Haematology-Oncology, in the National University Hospital.

The objective of the award is to recruit top-notch clinician scientists to carry out medical research, henceforth bringing about better clinical applications and patient outcomes. The STaR Investigators will help to foster strong collaborations with research groups and institutions within Singapore and globally. More importantly, they will also serve as mentors for the younger researchers.
