Dr. Pieter Eichhorn Receives NUS High’s ‘Inspiring Research Mentor Award

Assistant Professor Pieter Eichhorn, Junior Principal Investigator at Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI Singapore), was recently awarded the Inspiring Research Mentor Award by NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (NUS High). The award was presented in recognition of Dr. Eichhorn’s work in mentoring two NUS High students.

As part of their graduation requirement, final year students at the NUS High are required to perform a laboratory research project. Matthew Yeo and Kam Chin Ting joined Dr. Eichhorn’s lab for eight months, during which they created CRISPR knockout cell lines for components of the TGF-? pathway. Both students completed the project with exceptional proficiency and competence, and recently described their results at the NUS High Research Symposium.

Dr. Eichhorn described the mentoring process as a “wonderful experience” and also expressed his “full confidence that both of these young men will go onto achieve many great things in science”.
